Why Healing Out Loud?

The short answer comes from a quote you’ve probably seen it before. Its origin is unknown, but it’s commonly associated with TWLOHA. It goes, “Heal out loud, because we almost lost you in the silence.”

Why I write:

Writing has been integral to my healing, and so has sharing it. One of the biggest ways my abuser robbed me of my power was by taking my voice. That silence almost cost me my life.

No more. I’m taking my voice back. I’m telling my story now.

I share my writing for personal reasons, but also because if I can help someone else feel seen along the way, I want to do that. It was the testimonies and courage of other women who had walked this path before me that told me that I could, in fact, survive this. It was their wisdom that helped me take off the blinders and see how dangerous my situation was.

It’s my turn to pay it forward.

A safe space:

One of the things that helped me the most was community, online and in person. I would love to help foster a similar community here, where we can uplift and support each other. Where we can say, “me too,” timidly or with our full chests; however it needs to come out. Whether you are just starting out on this healing journey or are a seasoned traveler, you are welcome here. If you are just here to learn, you are welcome here. This space is for kindness, for support, for listening, for accountability, and for showing up for each other as our full, beautiful selves. This space is for becoming, whatever that may look like for you. Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
